Cary Photographer | SPS Mentor

Hi everyone! I have some super exciting news to share today and I’m awaiting your response 🙂 As your Cary Photographer, I am getting ready to embark on another journey. Educator.

Moving into Education – Teaching Parents to Take Better Pictures of Their Kids

I have always LOVED photography. I really got that push that I needed and wanted when I joined this awesome online community, Shultz Photo School. The school is geared towards parents who want to be able to take better pictures of their kids. Raise your hand if that’s you! I know when my kids were born I wanted to document EVERY. SINGLE. THING. I had always taken pictures and thought I was honestly pretty good at it but I want to show you something. Check this out:

Before the Shultz Photo School I thought I knew what I was doing. I had taken a film photography course in college and had been taking pictures for years. The before photos were taken in May 2015. The after photos were taken in May 2017. I couldn’t even believe it when I put these side by side! The community that is Shultz Photo School is beyond encouraging. The online community is EXTREMELY active and there are ALWAYS people willing to help you out.

Moving to a Local Platform

Anyway, they have decided this year to start a local mentoring program and I was selected to be one of the mentors! How cool is that? As your Cary Photographer, I am incredibly excited to be able to help other momma’s (and dad’s, too!) learn how to take better pictures of their kids. Who doesn’t want to have great photos to show their kids when they are older? To show to their grand kids and great grandkids even? Even if you aren’t a parent and you just have an interest in photography, you can join in on this, too!

We will walk through things such as composition, light, using manual mode on your cool DSLR you probably have (By no means do you need a DSLR to take this class. There is so much you can learn and apply even on your iPhone. Promise 😉 ), and we will even talk about some post production and editing! And best of all you will get access to the Shultz Photo School Photo Fix which is full of so much great information, as well as the online Facebook group which will be such a huge support system.

I’m still working out a date and time BUT the first round of this class will begin mid April and it will run for 4 weeks, an hour each week. We will watch videos, chat and best of all get completely hands on! I find this to be the most valuable part. Having someone to walk me through things, especially manual, as I was learning would have been such a great resource. Just think, an hour a week for 4 weeks and you can be well on your way to creating images you LOVE and preserving and documenting those things that change so quickly.

I hope you all are having a fantastic Friday! The hubby and I are headed to Shenandoah for our first real vacation since our kiddos were born. It’s been a long time! Can any other momma’s relate? I can’t wait to show you photos from our trip once we return. Have a great weekend everyone!
